Addressing the issue of Personal Computer (PC) penetration in the country, Dadson said its penetration level remained low because they are priced out of affordability of the people.
"Today most people prefer the smartphone because it is affordable and can do most of the functions of the PC. Smartphone shipments were twice that of PC in 2012 and the trend is increasing. Smartphone acquisition is increasing by the day and it has become a central life of what we do on daily basis, becoming an indispensable tool that is bringing value to the end users hence our concern for the migration from 2G to 3G, for more value added" Dadson said, adding that all these were made possible because of the affordability of smartphone devices, which also does all the functions of the PC. Although he said 3G penetration was still low in the country, he blamed the slow pace on high cost of 3G devices.
He explained that the Qualcomm Reference Design (QRD) would help the operator to mass produce and accelerate mobile devices production at cheaper rates.
