The opening session of the Think Tank will be followed by a talk titled "Using Big Data to Make a Powerful Impact" by GE Global Research CMO,
"Stratecast has identified nearly 40 sources of data that enterprises must contend with, and more than a dozen additional sources that telecommunications providers must also manage," said Cotrupe. "Ironically, even as businesses strive to keep pace with the growth of data from external sources, the emergence of new models -- such as a multi-device, always-connected, and knowledge-based workforce -- means that organizations are themselves creating data at a higher pace than ever before."
While Big Data does present sizable challenges, harnessing it can make an organization data-driven and encourage the creation of policies and practices to transform information into action. It also forces business to decide on key performance indicators (KPIs) and areas of data on which to focus.
"Effectively managing Big Data means the organization has truly learned to collect, assimilate, normalize, analyze and act on intelligence from all sources to empower employees with the data they need to do their jobs better," said Cotrupe. "It represents the culmination of the dream that a company's most important data need not be locked away or be available exclusively to the Data Scientist, but instead can be readily available to virtually everyone in the organization."
The final Big Data Think Tank session, "Ask the Experts! Panel Discussion -- Driving Big Data: Real-World Big Data Issues & Answers," will offer examples of results that can be achieved by deploying Big Data solutions, as well as critical issues and best practices in implementing a Big Data solution.
