Aug. 23--B/E Aerospace Inc. said Thursday that a patent lawsuit filed Wednesday by MAG Aerospace Industries Inc. is without merit.
MAG Aerospace, a subsidiary of Zodiac Aerospace of Paris, claimed in the lawsuit that B/E infringed on MAG patents with its Aircraft Ecosystems vacuum toilet.
B/E said it "firmly believes" there is no infringement of the MAG patents. It said it has begun shipments to Boeing of its modular lavatory systems that contain the vacuum toilet.
"The B/E Aerospace technology and patent suite have been very carefully developed and the MAG Aerospace relevant patents and technology have been cited by B/E Aerospace in its patent applications with the U.S. Patent Office," B/E said in a statement.
"B/E Aerospace has been granted several relevant patents, one of which is patent number 8,291,525, the title of which is "vacuum waste system and method for using the same."
On a separate note, B/E's rezoning request for a 4.93-acre site at 175 Oak Plaza Blvd. in Winston-Salem will be held at 4:30 p.m.Sept. 12 by the City-County Planning Board.
The company bought the site for $1.2 million from Peller Properties LLC, according to the Forsyth County Register of Deeds. The rezoning request is for a change from general office to general industrial.
B/E's local workforce numbers more than 1,100 in Winston-Salem.
