Aug. 02--The Georgia Film, Music and Digital Entertainment Office has big plans in place to celebrate 40 years of filming in our state.
The office, a division of the Department of Economic Development, plans a screening of the locally produced movie "Zombieland" at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Fox Theatre. The 2009 flick starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin and Emma Stone filmed in Marietta, at a private home on Kennesaw Avenue and Maple Avenue Methodist Church, among other locations.
"The Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival at the Fox Theatre is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the 40th anniversary of film and television productions in Georgia with the industry, visitors and locals," Lee Thomas, director of the Georgia Film, Music and Digital Entertainment Office, said in a statement. "Started by Gov. Jimmy Carter in 1973, the film office has assisted with more than 700 feature film productions since its inception, including Sony Pictures' runaway hit 'Zombieland,' which began an epidemic of zombie projects in the state."
The AMC hit series "The Walking Dead" films in Senoia.
Prior to the movie, organizers invite audience members to come in their best undead finery. Arrive at 6:30 p.m. in your zombie get-up, or you can dress like another character from a movie filmed in Georgia. (The possibilities are endless: "The Three Stooges," "Anchorman 2" and "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" might give you some ideas, to say nothing of all those "Madea" movies.)
Folks who show up in costume will have a chance to compete for $1,000 in prizes and a pair of one-day tickets to Dragon Con going on Aug. 30-Sept. 2, where you'll probably want to wear your special outfit again.
Get your tickets at the box office, see www.FoxTheatre.org or call 1-855-285-8499. Here's to the next 40 years of Georgia movie magic!
Sandler, Shaq reunite for locally made film
An Adam Sandler-Drew Barrymore comedy that's been shooting in Buford, Lawrenceville and the Lake Lanier area apparently will include NBA star-turned-comic actor Shaquille O'Neal as well. Shaq's been spotted at a Mall of Georgia sporting goods store where the movie, which started production with the working title "Blended" but has reportedly now switched to the title "Familymoon," has done some filming. He and Sandler are appearing on-screen together now in the summer ensemble comedy "Grown Ups 2," which also stars Kevin James, Tim Meadows, David Spade, Salma Hayek, Jon Lovitz and Chris Rock along with young Atlanta actor Nadji Jeter.
