Knox County Public Library's "Movies on Market Square" is celebrating a decade, and on Sept. 13, the 10th season of family- friendly outdoor movies launches its fall lineup.
Every Friday night from Sept. 13 to Oct. 18, the public is invited to bring the whole family -- including well-behaved four- pawed tail-wagging companions -- to see a free family movie, presented by Lusid Media.
Here's the cool part: This year's lineup will be a sort of best- of offerings, and the public gets to decide the top picks from the past 10 years.
But it won't be easy.
Squaring off are such powerhouses as "Ferris Beuller's Day Off" and "The Princess Bride" from the first year. "The Wizard of Oz" goes head to head with "Willie Wonka" from the 2006-2007 seasons. From last year, the big question is whether "Despicable Me" will be able to shake down "The Hunger Games" again.
Voting runs through Aug. 25 at www.knoxlib.org/movies. The winning lineup will be announced Aug. 29.
Lusid Media has joined Knox County Public Library as the presenting sponsor of "Movies on Market Square."
"We love being a part of downtown Knoxville -- and the library is a great resource for our community -- so we're excited to help sponsor this event," said Zak Weisfeld, president of Lusid Media. "What could be better than bringing our town together to enjoy some great movies and celebrate our great libraries."
The Library produces "Movies on Market Square" to highlight its vast movie and music collection. With nearly 13,000 titles, the movie collection is one of its most popular circulating collections.
