SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/09/13 -- Square, the company making commerce easy for everyone, today announced the public availability of Square Stand, Square's beautiful hardware that helps brick and mortar businesses turn an iPad into a complete point of sale. Square Stand -- and third party accessories, like a cash drawer, receipt printer, and barcode scanner -- is now available online via squareup.com/stand, with purchases shipping this week to customers who placed pre-orders. Starting today, customers will also now be able to purchase Square Stand in Apple retail stores and Best Buy stores across the U.S.
Neighborhood retail locations are an important resource for small business owners looking for new opportunities and technologies that can help them grow. Customers can purchase Square Stand in both Apple retail stores and Best Buy stores. In Best Buy, customers can also experience Square Stand with interactive product demos that will roll out to over 1,000 locations in the coming months.
With local businesses increasingly tearing out their old point of sale systems to run Square Register, the free point of sale application, Square Stand gives merchants a beautiful, secure, and reliable way to manage and grow their business, all for $299. Fourteen local merchants -- in over 35 locations across the US -- have been using Square Stand to run their business since May. Watch how merchants have used Square Stand in this video.
"Square Stand is a powerful way to run my entire business, and it looks great on my countertop," said Matt Schodorf, owner of Schodorf's Luncheonette in Highland Park, California. "Customers love it and it keeps my line moving."
Local retail businesses across the country recently participated in Square's #WeStandFor contest, which asked entrants to share via Twitter and Vine what their businesses stand for. Square will award five businesses a free Square Stand in an announcement later this month.
