July 29--'G.I. Joe: Retaliation'
The Real American Heroes return -- though some briefly, some not at all -- for this action sequel inspired by the Hasbro toy line. Returning for the Joes are Channing Tatum as Duke, and Ray Park as Snake Eyes. They're taking on Cobra, which includes Zartan, under the guise of the U.S. president (an amazing Jonathan Pryce), Storm Shadow (Byung-hun Lee) and Firefly (a not-so- good Ray Stevenson). With control of the White House, Cobra turns the Joes into public enemy No. 1. Can they win? Come on! Anyway, in what is probably the film's biggest selling point, the new soldiers add Dwayne Johnson as the giant, gun-toting Roadblock and Bruce Willis as the original Joe. The film is certainly a by-the-books action movie, but, especially for fans of the franchise, toys, comics, etc., it's a lot of fun. (DVD, $29.99; Blu-ray/DVD combo, $39.99; Blu-ray 3-D/Blu-ray/DVD combo, $54.99)
'Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox'
A big moment in The Flash's past jettisons him into a strange world with different versions of familiar heroes. Can he unite them and save us? Until we get a live-action "Justice League" movie, this great animated flick will certainly do. (DVD, $19.98; Blu-ray/DVD combo, $24.98)
'Star Trek: The Next Generation -- Season Four'; 'Redemption'
The impressive remastering of the "Star Trek" series continues with the fourth season -- featuring some favorite episodes, such as "Brothers," in which Data meets his creator. Also available is "Redemption," which turns the season finale and the Season 5 premiere into a movie about Worf and the Klingon Civil War. (Four, Blu-ray, $129.99; "Redemption," Blu-ray, $24.99)
Kate Bosworth, Katie Aselton (who also directs) and Lake Bell star in this thriller about three friends vacationing on a deserted island. Of course, they're going to be hunted. (DVD, $19.98; Blu-ray, $24.99)
Francis Ford Coppola directs this horror film, starring Val Kilmer and Elle Fanning, about a writer investigating a murder. (DVD, $22.98; Blu-ray, $29.99)
For some classic chills, check out this new transfer of the John Carpenter horror film, starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Adrienne Barbeau and a lot of fog. (DVD, $19.93; Blu-ray, $29.93)
TV on DVD
'Banshee: Season One' (DVD, $39.98; Blu-ray, $49.99)
'Betty Boop: The Essential Collection Vol. 1' (DVD, $24.95; Blu-ray, $29.95)
