Brazil'sMinistry of Communications has changed one of the requirements that companies must meet to obtain the tax benefits granted by the government for smartphones. The decree No. 222, published in the Official Gazette on 26 July, opens up the possibility that applications developed in Brazil, instead of coming embedded in the device, are available through a separate download or installation guides. In practice, this means that users will be free to install and uninstall these applications when they want. Another novelty is the requirement that manufacturers keep the Ministry of Communications informed of the devices of each company awarded the tax exemption.
