Responsive design is when a website is designed to sense the size and shape of the screen on which it is being displayed -- such as a smartphone, tablet, or desktop monitor -- then rearrange itself into an appropriate configuration so that users can get an optimal experience for that screen. With mobile browsing accounting for 40% of web usage, according to a Nielsen study published earlier this year, and expected to overtake desktop browsing in 2014 or 2015, according to various reports, finding a mobile website solution is important for companies that want to remain visible on the Internet. However, a survey of global internet usage by StarCounter showed no clear winner on the type of device used, which was divided evenly between Samsung (25%), Apple (25%), and Nokia (22%) and other (28%) devices.
Drupal is an open-source content management framework (sometimes also categorized as a content management system) that is designed to allow quick and easy publishing of content online "with an endless variety of customization, such as e-commerce or shopping carts," according to Drupal.org.
President and founder of Neon Rain Arif Gangji talked about the "drupal development" offering, "Although it's clear that mobile is rapidly overtaking desktop web usage, it's not like there's a single winner for mobile devices. Between smartphones and tablets, there are a lot of possible screens out there, and when you add in the introduction of large monitors and people hooking up their computer to full size TVs, it's clear that businesses need a web site that can look great and function well on any size screen."
Gangji added, "We like developing in Drupal because it's a great content management framework. "Drupal development" offers powerful, fast, and secure, it lets us give our customers a great looking website that is also robust, especially against traffic surges. Believe me, nothing makes a customer more frustrated than when their marketing pays off and they get a huge influx of traffic, only to have their site crash, losing them untold possible leads. Drupal sites are quick to build, letting us get websites live faster for less. And because Drupal is open source, there's no licensing fees, which is another big savings for customers."
