July 29--DURHAM -- Agricultural biotechnology companies involved in the development of genetically modified crops, also known as genetically modified organisms or GMOs, are launching a website to answer the "toughest questions" about them.
The companies involved in the effort include Syngenta, Bayer CropScience, BASF and Monsanto -- all of which have Research Triangle Park operations.
They're launching a new website called "GMO Answers" where members of the public can ask questions and get information on genetically modified organisms and their use in agriculture.
The website is produced by the members of The Council for Biotechnology Information, which includes BASF, Bayer CropScience, Dow AgroSciences LLC, DuPont, Monsanto Company and Syngenta, according to a news release.
"There are a lot of questions about the important technology we provide, and unfortunately there is a lot of misinformation online," Steve Goldsmith, a spokesman for Syngenta Biotechnology, said in an email. "We're trying to help balance the conversation with the facts."
