The next big thing? Keep an eye on these young hopefuls ; On a reggae tip: Leicester likely lads By The Rivers name their ones to watch

July 27, 2013

Thanks to a rather brilliant set to a packed-out BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury, Leicester reggae act By The Rivers look set to become the biggest thing to come out of the city since Walkers crisps. Their show at the world's biggest festival last month not only saw them lauded as the best act from the Introducing stage by a country mile, they were also rated as one of the best acts of the entire blimmin' event.

The BBC Glasto brains put the Leicester boys - an unsigned act, may we remind you - on their list of five future Pyramid Stage stars.

Which - when there are hundreds of bands playing across dozens of stages - is quite a compliment.

You might have heard of the others on the list: Bastille, Foals, The Strypes and Jessie Ware, who all have major labels and various award nominations under their belts already. So it's quite a big deal, we think you'll agree.

To celebrate, we thought we'd feature our own top five, with By The Rivers at the helm.

So here you go - the top five Leicestershire acts at the minute, as picked by BTR.

martha bean - acoustic artist She has released an amazing EP, The State of the Art, and most recently a single called A Piece Of This World. Both are great releases and well worth checking out. You can hear her music on Spotify and it is available for download on iTunes. boy kid cloud - dubstep artist Released many quality EPs to high acclaim. Making a name for himself globally, having toured America, Australia and Europe. Recently released his latest single, This Way, on Inspected Records, which is available on iTunes. mark elliott - acoustic/ pop solo artist He has released a brilliant self-titled EP, with his popular single, Maybe She Will, included. He will be releasing an EP at the end of the year, which will be a collaboration with Leicester musicians, including The Daydream Club, Little Night Terrors and By The Rivers. hallowed people - alternative/ indie band A young, up-and-coming band making a name for themselves on the Leicester music scene. They're playing at this year's Strawberry Fields Festival on August 9 - one to keep an eye out for. kamakaze - hip hop artist Has built a name for himself on the Leicester hip hop scene. A clever lyricist also with a hip hop group called BLG, who have released a couple of mix tapes.
