Guam-based telecommunications provider GTA will provide free internet with speeds of up to 50 Mbps with Wi-Fi to Santa Barbara, St. Francis and St. Anthony Catholic Schools for the upcoming school year. The company announced a Facebook contest in May where individuals had the chance to nominate a public or private school of their choice for a chance to win the prize. GTA had initially selected three public schools as the winners as they garnered the most votes, but the Department of Education said it could not accept the offer. GTA then selected the three private schools with the most votes for the internet prize. GTA will also fund the initial construction costs up to USD 10,000 for each of the winning schools, including infrastructure and equipment.
