You'll be loving Tamworth as films and family fun take over Castle Grounds

July 25, 2013

A WEEKEND of family fun is just around the corner as the countdown begins to the We Love Tamworth festival.

The two-day event kicks off on Saturday, August 10 when the Castle Grounds will be transformed into a giant outdoor cinema, as it plays host to the town's first-ever open-air film showing.

Early evening audiences can transport themselves to the Greek islands with the feel-good family favourite Mamma Mia, while READ the late night crowd are invited to dress up in basques, stockings and suspenders for cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The screening of Mamma Mia starts at 8.45pm and is a PG certificate, so suitable for a family audience.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show starts at 11.15pm. Audiences will be issued with headphones so the neighbours aren't disturbed. The film is a 15 certificate, and nobody under that age will be admitted or allowed to stay on after the showing of Mamma Mia.

Audiences are invited to bring picnics and warm blankets to both screenings. Gates open 15 minutes before each screening. Food and drink will be on sale during the event, and there will be a licensed bar.

Entrance to both screenings is by ticket only and demand is high, so make sure you buy your ticket before they all sell out. Tickets are Pounds 10 for each screening (Pounds 8 for concessions).

On Sunday August 11, the Castle Grounds will come alive from 10am to 4pm with fairground rides, a bouncy castle, a climbing wall, water zorbing, inflatables, a duck race, a dog show and a train as well as a host of stalls and sideshows.

There will also be a Children's Zone, featuring a circus skills workshop, face painting, balloon modelling, storytelling and craft activities. Entry to the Zone will be Pounds 3 per child, with adults free.

Visitors of all ages will also get to see animals, including skunks, meerkats, large exotic mammals and domestic mammals when the ever-popular petting zoo returns to the Castle Grounds.

The Central England Brass Band will be adding some musical accompaniment to the day, performing in the bandstand between 1pm and 4pm. Tickets for the open-air cinema are available online at, in person from Tamworth Information Centre in Corporation Street or by calling the box office on 01827 709618.

Tamworth Borough Council Deputy Leader, Cllr Rob Pritchard, said: We are really excited about the We Love Tamworth weekend, which has something for everyone and is a fantastic addition to our popular outdoor events calendar. This combination of daytime music and events, with film shows at night will attract a lot of people and will prove hugely popular.
