BRIEF: Rita Moreno to receive the 2013 SAG Life Achievement Award

July 22, 2013

July 22--Legendary actress, singer and dancer Rita Moreno has been named the recipient of the 50th SAG Life Achievement Award for career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment.

Moreno, 81, will receive the award at the 20th Screen Actors Guild Awards on Jan. 18, which will be telecast live on TNT and TBS.

"I am simply delighted that Rita Moreno is the 50th recipient of our SAG Life Achievement Award -- the most prestigious honor we bestow," said Ken Howard, SAG-AFTRA co-president, in a statement Monday morning.

Moreno is one of only 11 artists, and the only Latino, to have won an Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Grammy Award.

She won the supporting actress Oscar as Anita in 1961's "West Side Story," a Tony for her role as bathhouse singer Googie Gomez in 1975's comedy "The Ritz," a 1972 Grammy for her performance on "The Electric Company Album" and two Emmys: for a guest appearance in 1977 on "The Muppet Show" and for her dramatic turn on "The Rockford Files" in 1978.

Moreno, who made her Broadway debut at age 13 in "Skydrift" with Eli Wallach, has appeared in such classic films as 1952's "Singin' in the Rain," 1956's "The King and I" and 1971's "Carnal Knowledge." She'll next be seen in the movie "Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks."
