Cory Monteith Cremated in Canada

July 18, 2013

"Glee" star Cory Monteith has been cremated, according to people.com.

The 31-year-old star, who was found dead Saturday in his hotel room in Vancouver, Canada, was privately cremated Tuesday, according to the website.

The actor's father was not invited to the cremation and was "totally devastated" that he did not get to view his son's body, reports tmz.com. Monteith's parents have been divorced since he was seven years old.

"I always loved both my sons and am going to miss Cory very, very much," Joe Monteith told the website.

Canadian authorities determined, following an autopsy and toxicology testing, that the actor died from "mixed toxicity, involving heroin and alcohol." There was no suspected foul play and he was reportedly alone in his room when he died.

He had completed a 30-day rehab in April and was scheduled to return to work on Fox's "Glee" next week.

Monteith's body was released to his mother Tuesday who made the decision to have a private viewing at the hospital with his brother Shaun and Cory's girlfriend and co-star Lea Michele, reported the website.

Following the viewing, his mother made the decision to have him cremated, according to the website.

Fans of the actor can make donations in his name to three charities he supported: Project Limelight Society, Virgin Unite and Chrysalis.
