July 13--The biggest night in Erie music this year will be Sept. 29.

Just how big is entirely up to you.

Voting for the 2013 Rock Erie Music Awards started Wednesday at www.rockeriemusicawards.com. You'll determine whether a presumptive favorite or a long shot wins categories including best blues, country, hip hop and rock band; best bassist, drummer, guitarist and horn player; and best male and female vocalist.

Online voting for the seventh annual celebration of Erie's best bands and musicians runs through Aug. 9. And on Sept. 29, those bands and musicians and their fans will mix at the Bayfront Convention Center in an Oscars-style show to be hosted by illusionist Bob Borgia.

You can read all about the rules on the website. And while you're there, take the opportunity to immerse yourself in the region's best online music scene.

RockErie.com has cemented its place in the music community by reaching out to musicians and fans alike.

Artists can claim their own pages to post not only their news and background, but also their latest songs, videos and even music downloads available for sale.

Fans can search out the latest music in their favorite genre, including by fan ratings, number of plays and number of fans. Also available: schedules for shows, concert photos and stories and information from the Erie Times-News. You can tap into the RockErie Radio Player for a stream of music from member artists. You can review musicians' work and find additional connections to musicians on their band pages. And you can catch up with Dr. Rock's blog.

RockErie's also on Facebook (facebook.com/rockerie) and Twitter (@rockerie).

Whether you're a fan of Ron Yarosz and the Vehicle's blues -- and who isn't? -- Hectic's hip-hop or country from Next of Kin, there's a cut, a video or some new information for you on RockErie.com.

And don't forget that you have something the artists on the site want to earn: your vote.
