Where jazz, pop, prog and ambient meet! ; Michael Ranzetta NOTTINGHAM SOUNDMusic teacher and composer Michael Ranzetta, 27, from Ashfield, will be launching his second album, Arca, at Screen22 tomorrow. Simon Wilson reports

How long have you been writing and performing music? Since I was 13. I studied with the Access To Music team in Leicester, and then trained as a session musician at the British Academy of New Music in London. I'm an associate of Trinity College, London, in music performance and teach music, guitar, bass and drums at Nottingham Inner City Academy.

Describe your sound It's quite difficult to pigeonhole but I would say it is an even mixture of jazz, pop, prog and ambient!

Who are your biggest music influences? Frank Zappa, Steely Dan, John Frusciante, Polar Bear, Al Di Meola, Miles Davis, Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens.

Any claims to fame? I supported Snow Patrol at the age of 17, played Bloodstock Open Air Festival with other great metal bands such as Opeth, Meshuggah and Devin Townsend, recorded with legendary producer Russ Keffert and had a mastering session with renowned Tim Turan for a previous album release.

Where is your favourite venue to play in Notts? I've played many, such as Rock City, Junktion 7 and The Central but I would have to say the Rescue Rooms has been my favourite, as that's where I played when I met my wife when I was in a previous metal band supporting Napalm Death. How romantic...

What should we expect at one of your gigs? Cool, slick, chilled vibes with emotion and a wide range of musical influences. I'm currently getting in touch with musicians to gig the solo albums in the near future.

Any music for sale? Yes, a lot of music in many genres is available from my website ranging from metal to country to jazz. My second album, Arca, is out on the Parade Music Label tomorrow and will be available on iTunes, Amazon, Play, etc.

Other Notts musicians/bands you rate? Drummer Richard Grindon and bassist Dan Bird from our old band, Lordaeron. Top musicians.

Anything else? I also compose music for computer games, independent film and TV and have a massive music library spanning many different genres. Visit the website for more info:
