LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwired) -- 07/12/13 -- Those inspired by the excitement of Henley Regatta should consider Neilson sailing holidays to prolong their nautical fun this summer.

The Henley Regatta is without doubt one of the highlights of the summer social and sporting calendar and took place between 3rd and 7th July this year. The Regatta saw the picturesque Berkshire town taken over by both the international sailing elite and lucky novices, who took part in over 200 thrilling races.

Members of the public rubbed shoulders with Olympians as they witnessed the adrenaline thrills of the races and experienced the sophisticated ambience of the Enclosures. There were record crowds and peerless skies for the Regatta's final three days. Andrew Triggs Hodge stroked Great Britain to a record-busting win in the Grand Challenge Cup for men's eights. With over 470 crews participating - including over 86 crews from 22 overseas countries - victory was by no means guaranteed.

Those inspired by Henley to try out their own sea legs this summer should look no further than many of the sailing holidays and courses offered by leading holiday operator Neilson.

With 'Learn to Sail' holidays on offer lasting just five days, it's now within anyone's grasp to begin sailing and skippering their own yacht. Aimed at those who have never sailed before, the Neilson 'Flotilla Skipper' course covers elements of RYA courses including RYA Competent Crew and aspects of the RYA Day Skipper Qualification - giving participants the necessary skills to skipper yacht in the flotilla environment. The course is far from being all work and no play though. Between hopping from pontoon to bayside or from quay to harbour, course members will also stop for picnics, taverna lunches and swims in a number of stunning locations across Greece and Turkey.

For more experienced sailors, there's a wealth of bargains to be had this summer. With last minute trips starting at just GBP 599, guests can find themselves with the wind running through their hair aboard a one week flotilla in the Southern Ionian or along Turkey's breathtaking Lycian Coast.

There are also a huge variety of family sailing holidays to choose from for mums and dads keen to get the kids bitten by the sailing bug from a young age. Guests can opt for a twin centre Sail and Stay holiday which allows families to enjoy the best of both worlds, combining a week spent in one of Neilson's action packed luxurious beach resort and 7 days taking charge of their own yacht.
