CORAL GABLES, FL -- (Marketwired) -- 07/11/13 -- Preferred Medical Plan, the oldest independently owned managed care plan in South Florida, announced today that it expects to significantly expand employment in South Florida within the next year to accommodate demands of several major expansion initiatives. Most significant of these is a sizable increase anticipated in its individual commercial line of business in response to the launch of the Healthcare Insurance Marketplace ("Exchange").
The health plan also announced the first in a series of Job Fairs (https://www.pmphmo.com/jobFair.php) to attract job seekers in all areas of managed care, taking place on Saturday, July 13, at the Sofitel Miami.
Preferred Medical Plan filed its proposed Marketplace products and rates earlier this year. It is currently working with the state Office of Insurance Regulation and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to secure approval of more than 20 new health plan offerings.
Preferred Medical Plan expects to participate in the federal Health Insurance Marketplace with Gold, Silver, Bronze and Catastrophic plan offerings in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
"We anticipate being one of the most competitive plans in South Florida in the Health Insurance Marketplace and expect our membership to grow tremendously in all of our lines of business in coming years," said Tamara Meyerson, President and CEO, Preferred Medical Plan.
Preferred Medical Plan is celebrating 40 years in the managed care business. It is the oldest independently owned and licensed managed care organization in South Florida, currently serving more than 40,000 members in Medicaid managed care, Medicare Advantage and commercial lines of business. It is also the oldest Medicaid managed care plan in Florida, as well as one of the largest issuers of individual HMO coverage in the state.
"For the past year, we have prepared for significant expansion in all of our lines of business by adding several thousand providers to our network, investing in new technology and infrastructure, and hiring key personnel," said Meyerson. "We are continuing our hiring efforts, focusing on recruiting the best and brightest talent to help us succeed in this rapidly changing healthcare environment and to drive growth in our Medicaid, Medicare and commercial products. We expect to see our full-time and part-time staff to grow by several hundred due to our expansion plans."
To recruit managed care professionals, Preferred Medical Plan is holding series of large-scale Job Fairs. The first takes place on Saturday, July 13, 2013 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Sofitel Miami (5800 Blue Lagoon Drive, Miami, FL 33126).
