LOS ANGELES, July 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Woodkid, the critically renowned, Grammy-nominated, French musician, video director and producer who just released his debut Interscope album, The Golden Age, will undertake a seven-city U.S./Canadian fall tour. The jaunt begins Oct. 14 at Philadelphia's Transfer and wraps Oct. 25 with a return engagement at L.A.'s Fonda Theatre after he appeared there in May. See the complete list of dates below.
Following in the footsteps of such fellow directors-turned-musicians as Baz Luhrmann and David Lynch, the eclectic renaissance man stepped out from behind the camera with The Golden Age, which was released in March. The album follows the life and loves of a youngster as he grows into manhood and reaches a tragic end. The singer/songwriter/keyboardist producer commented on the album's soaring, orchestral songs, "I want people to feel like heroes when they hear my music." Lemoine created, produced and directed all aspects of the music and image for the project, which featured vocalist Antghony Hegarty.
Woodkid is the musical alias of filmmaker Yoann Lemoine, the auteur behind such groundbreaking videos as Lana Del Rey's "Blue Jeans" and "Born to Die," Drake & Rihanna's "Take Care" and Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream."
The acclaimed album followed Woodkid's 2011 EP Iron and his 2012 EP Run Boy Run, with the title video receiving a Grammy nomination this year in the Best Short Form Music Video category. Lemoine also recently appeared at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens, discussing his career and showing highlights of his work as part of Sonos and VEVO's The Director's Studio, held in conjunction with the touring exhibition, Spectacle: The Music Video. The first comprehensive museum exhibition to explore the art form, it features more than 300 videos, immersive installations, and artifacts organized by the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati and curated by Jonathan Wells and Meg Grey Wells of Flux and designed by Logan.
Woodkid's "Iron" was chosen by the video game franchise Assassin's Creed for its blockbuster launch in 2011, while "Run Boy Run" was put to use in the global advertising campaign for the release of the third iteration in 2012.
Woodkid turns every one of his live performances into a spectacle. He turned the venerable Le Grand Rex Theatre in Paris into a palace of sheer delight with a 30-piece orchestra in front of 3,000 adoring fans. "When I started playing my own music, I wanted it to be as tall as a skyscraper," he said. "Images can achieve that. A really big orchestra can also achieve that."
