June 25--OXFORD -- Kenny Rogers is coming to the Oxford Fair.
The legendary country singer will appear on Saturday, September 14, beginning at 8:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds off Pottle Street. Tickets are just $10, said Oxford Fair President Jackie Young Tuesday morning.
"It's awesome," said Young.
Rogers is one of music's legendary voices with classics like "Lucille," and "The Gambler," a story song that became a television movie starring Rogers in the title role.
In addition to "Lucille," and "The Gambler," Roger's long list of classics includes 24 No. 1 hits, including "Lady," "She Believes in Me," "Islands in the Stream," and "We've Got Tonight."
According to his website, Rogers has received hundreds of awards for his music and charity work, including three Grammys, 11 People's Choice Awards, 18 American Music Awards, eight Academy of Country Music awards and five Country Music Association awards.
Young said that like last year when Leann Rimes was contracted to play the fair, "friends in the community" have sponsored the appearance of Rogers.
Caroline Kole, a 15-year-old country star, will open for Rogers.
According to Kole's website, she has released four CDs of original music, and signed a deal with SONY/ATV in Nashville. She has opened concerts across the nation for artists, including Reba McEntire, Martina McBride, Blake Shelton and Alan Jackson and has sung live with Sheryl Crow, Pat Benatar, Charlie Daniels and the GoGo s.
The Oxford County Fair runs from Sept. 11-14 this year. Drawing off of last year's successful fair with a focus on family and agriculture, new affordable pricing, exciting entertainment and educational displays, Young said there is something for everyone.
This year, Young said there will be new competitions, shows, entertainment and more while retaining the successful education day for the school children and other decades-old activities.
