SAN DIEGO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/24/13 -- If you are like most of us who work, have a family, are on a budget, or all of the above, your long-awaited vacation time is sacred and doesn't come around that often. So, vacation time should be perfect, or at least be as stress-free as possible. So choosing where to stay is one of the most important decisions you'll make.
But which is more ideal, a vacation rental or hotel? Well that ultimately depends on a number of individual preferences and factors. If you're unsure, here are some questions to ask yourself to help you get closer to a decision.
•How many people will be staying with you? If you are traveling with your family or a group of friends, a vacation rental will offer more space and privacy than a hotel and allow you to spend more time together than if staying in separate hotel rooms. For larger groups, vacation rentals can also be more affordable than a hotel stay because you can divide the costs among the group.
•Do you prefer being a local or tourist while on vacation? Staying at a hotel certainly has its own benefits (like room service, pool/spa onsite, and other amenities all in one location). But hotels can also tend to make people feel like a tourist in an unfamiliar place. Vacation rentals, on the other hand, are usually located within the destination's local communities. So you'll be more likely to venture out and discover new and interesting places around you among locals, instead of just staying within the confines of the hotel property.
•Will you be vacationing with your young children? There are good reasons to choose a vacation rental if you have young children. For instance, vacation homes give your kids more space to run around and play than a standard hotel room and often come equipped with the gear that you'll need, such as the Pack 'n' Play or high chair. In a vacation rental, you can also prepare food in the kitchen, making meal planning for kids much easier.
•Are you traveling with your pet? Traveling with pets brings its set of needs and challenges and can certainly limit your choices about where to stay. The good news, though, is as more people bring their pets on vacation, there are more pet-friendly accommodations to choose from than ever before. For travelers with pets, pet-friendly vacation rentals can be a great option because they offer more space for your pet to room, more of the comforts of home, and some even come pre-equipped with pet supplies, dog leashes, toys and the things that you'll need for your furry friend.
Lastly, whatever choice you do end up making about where to stay, make sure to do your research, weigh your options and give yourself enough time to plan your dream vacation.
