FUKREY .12A. DIRECTOR: MRIGDEEP SINGH LAMBA STARRING: PULKIT SAMRAT, MANJOT SINGH, ALI FAZAL his feisty sister Gretel (Gemma Arterton) had their first encounter with a witch as children.
THE PLOT: This comedy drama is based on four young lads - Hunny, Choocha, Lali and Zafar.
Hunny and Choocha desperately want to get admission in the coolest college solely to woo girls.
Unable to pass the entrance exams they gain entry through deceit.
Through luck and enterprise, the siblings killed the diabolical crone and established a reputation as protectors against the dark arts. When several children from one sleepy village go missing, Sheriff Berringer (Peter Stormare) blames local woman Mina (Pihla Viitala) and prepares to burn her as a witch. The eponymous heroes intervene in the nick of time and set about tracking down the real culprit - grand witch Muriel (Famke Janssen) - who is kidnapping local tykes as a sacrifice during the forthcoming night of the Blood Moon.
Meanwhile Lali spends his time in the local temple asking God to help him gain admittance so that he can be with his girlfriend.
As for Zafar he dreams of becoming a famous musician in the future.
Their lethargic life takes a turn when Choocha and Hunny comes up with a quick get-rich-quick plan.
With the odds stacked against them, Hansel, Gretel and an enthusiastic protege (Thomas Mann) lay their lives on the line to send Muriel and her coven back to hell.
In order to fulfil their individual desires all four decide to invest a large sum of money into a lottery.
So they approach shrewd businesswoman and underworld gangster Bholi Punjaban to invest in their plan.
Hansel& Gretel: Witch Hunters is a gleefully violent fantasy that expands the story of two children held hostage by a crone in a gingerbread house into a full-blooded battle between the forces of good and evil. The 3D version of the film is available exclusively on Blu-ray.
But what sounds good on paper soon goes haywire landing all four into bigger trouble than they had imagined.
THE VERDICT: Director Lamba's film is all-out comedy fare.
Tongue-in-cheek comic scenes aplenty will have you in stitches throughout.
SONG FOR MARION (PG) ELIZABETH (Gemma Arterton) is volunteer conductor of a motley crew of fun-loving pensioners at Smith Hall Community Centre, who perform under the name of the OAPZ.
Lamba's meticulous attention to male bonding and comradeship during sticky situations makes a remarkable watch.
And he also deserves praise for bringing an interesting and appealing female gangster character on screen.
It is refreshing to see Lamba giving lesser known stars a chance to showcase their talent.
Marion (Vanessa Redgrave) is one of the most popular and beloved members of the choir. She is battling terminal illness with the help of her cranky husband, Arthur (Terence Stamp), who would prefer his wife to give up singing so she can concentrate on getting better. The OAPZ are preparing for a singing competition and Marion is earmarked for a rousing solo.
All of them give a terrific performance but suave Pulkit Samrat is the star of the film standing tall throughout. He displays confidence, excellent body language and charisma of a budding star.
From the girls Richa Chadda gives a menacing act as the gangster. Whilst Chadda's character was hard Alas, when she can no longer trill through the hitting in Gangs Of Wasseypur here her true potential remains untapped.
pain, Arthur begrudgingly takes his wife's place and rediscovers his love of singing.
On the whole Fukrey is one of those movies from Bollywood where boy meets girl formula takes a back seat as male bonding takes precedence.
In the process, he also rebuilds bridges with his mechanic son James (Christopher Eccleston) and widens his circles of friends to support him when the time comes to let go of the woman he adores.

Song For Marion is a comedic drama about personal triumph and reconciliation in the wake of terminal illness, anchored by Stamp's sympathetic portrayal of a curmudgeonly loner who finds redemption at his lowest ebb.
