June 16--The 65th season of Gallery Players will begin with Yentl, a play by Leah Napolin and Isaac Bashevis Singer based on Singer's short story about a girl who defies Jewish tradition by disguising her gender to study the Talmud.

The troupe will present the central Ohio premiere of Other Desert Cities, Jon Robin Baitz's comedy-drama about an affluent Jewish family divided by politics and confronting difficult truths about the past.

The musical will be The Producers, Mel Brooks' irreverent adaptation of his film about two con men who conceive a scheme to produce a Broadway show they think is guaranteed to flop.

The annual children's theater production will be the world premiere of Elijah's Angel, a holiday-themed play adapted by central Ohio writer Michael J. Rosen from his book about two faiths finding common ground.

The lineup:

--Oct. 19 to Nov. 3: Yentl

--Dec. 7-15: Elijah's Angel

--March 1-16: The Producers

--May 3-18: Other Desert Cities

All performances will take place in the Jewish Community Center, 1125 College Ave.

Subscriptions, to go on sale July 1, cost $70, or $55 for members. Single tickets cost $10 to $20.

New Players Theater

New Players Theater will focus on classics and a recent Broadway play next season.

The 2013-14 season will begin with Long Day's Journey Into Night (Nov. 14-24), a harrowing Eugene O'Neill family drama about addiction.

In the Next Room (or The Vibrator Play) (April 3-13), a 2010 Tony nominee for best play by Sarah Ruhl, offers a Victorian-era exploration of female sexuality and hysteria.

Both productions will be presented in the Columbus Performing Arts Center, 549 Franklin Ave.

The 3-year-old troupe -- which is presenting the Shakespeare plays The Taming of the Shrew and Henry IV, Part One in repertory from Thursday through July 28 at the Mill Run Amphitheater in Hilliard -- plans to return next year (June 19 to July 27, 2014) with another Shakespearean repertory festival of Richard III and Cymbeline.
