Hillary Clinton's First Tweet: Future to Be Decided

June 10, 2013

Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton activated her Twitter account on Monday by sending a tweet thanking the creators of a popular page about her on Tumblr for inspiring her and noting that her future is "TBD" - to be determined.

The former first lady, 65, posted a photo of herself wearing sunglasses and looking intensely at her Blackberry - an image that went viral at the Texts from Hillary Tumblr page.

"Thanks for the inspiration @ASmith83 & @Sllambe - I'll take it from here... #tweetsfromhillary." The references were to Adam Smith and Stacy Lambe, creators of the Text from Hillary page on Tumblr.

In the desciption of her account she describes herself as "wife, mom, lawyer, women & kids advocate, FLOAR, FLOTUS, US Senator, SecState, author, dog owner, hair icon, pantsuit aficionado, glass ceiling cracker, TBD..."

FLOAR referred to first lady of Arkansas, where husband Bill was governor before becoming president. FLOTUS referred to first lady of the United States.

Clinton established her Twitter account several weeks ago, but hadn't sent a tweet prior to Monday. Her actions and statements are being closely watched because she is considered the Democrat with the best prospects in the 2016 presidential election.

She is only following four other people on the social networking site: her daughter, husband, the Clinton Foundation and the Clinton Global Initiative. The number of people following her jumped to 130,000 within a few hours of her first tweet.
