The Hookah Lounge Vol 1 is a new compilation of urban music that features a surprise guest appearance from Johnny Depp, the highest paid actor in Hollywood and the only actor to star in three films that have crossed the 1 billion mark globally.
This star-studded album is Executive Produced by Jonathan Hay, a high-profile celebrity publicist known for contributing to the launch of Rihanna's superstar career, as well as helping secure Whitney Houston's $100 million deal with Arista Records (via her late father's company, John Houston Entertainment).
The Hookah Lounge Vol 1 is being released through Hoopla Worldwide and distributed by INgrooves Fontana, a distributor responsible for millions of music sales throughout the world. Hoopla Worldwide is a record label based out of Louisville, Kentucky and has been described by HipHopDX (Complex Media) as a "media mammoth".
Besides Depp, other major stars featured on this album include Kanye West's artist, Cyhi The Prynce as well as Knoc-turn'al, Crooked I, Young Buck, Nappy Roots, Shawty Lo, Big Mike from The Geto Boys, Grandmaster Roc Raida of the X-ecutioners, Cam'ron, Fred The Godson, The Ying Yang Twins, Jay Rock, Pill (formerly of Maybach Music Group), Bay-C of T.O.K, and others. These superstar artists have paired up with regional acts who are quickly gaining national attention, such as Noah Jones, 1st Blood, Jup, Zac Fresh, Stilmatic, Nyche, Jurrarri, and others.
Johnny Depp's nephew, William "Billy" Rassel, who serves as the marketing supervisor of this compilation, dishes on how he was able to get his mega-star uncle involved with the song. "I had never really asked him to be involved with anything I was ever doing with music. However, I decided to reach out to him while he was in Utah filming 'The Lone Ranger'. I texted him with the idea we had for the song and about an hour later, he hit me back completely open to the idea and told me to send him the parts and he would record it in between shoots. I sent it to him, and he got it back to me in about two days with three separate versions of him reading the script for the song."
"Obviously, people know that Johnny Depp and Nappy Roots are both from Kentucky. But then you also have Renzo Charlez, Audio Stepchild, Shevy Chase from The Elephant Room, Junior Jackson and DJ B-Rite who are all from Kentucky too. Also, a former University of Louisville student, Stop Sign Tandy, is featured on the compilation with the multi-platinum Ying Yang Twins. Michael Barber, also a former UofL student, appears on the album with the Grammy-nominated Buffalo Stille. It's a great look for the city of Louisville." - Michael Paoloni (aka Elle Raiser) of Birdgang Clothing and Jonathan Hay Publicity.
Big Mike, former member of The Geto Boys, introduces his first single from his upcoming highly-anticipated album on this Hookah compilation. Chad Kiser (a co-founder of Hoopla Worldwide) says, "This is the song that Geto Boys fans everywhere have been waiting for. It's the most exciting project that I've ever been involved with." Another Houston native by the name of Trakksounds shows up on this compilation. Trakksounds has produced for Bun-B, Scarface, Wiz Khalifa, Chamillionaire, and many others.
The Hookah Lounge Vol 1 has special listening parties lined up for this album in Hookah lounges all throughout the United States. Physical and digital copies of this album are available anywhere music is sold. Official merchandise of this project is available at www.threadwax.com.
"We've created the soundtrack for Hookah Lounges all across the country. This album was strictly put together for fans of the Hookah environment. The diversity of this project is what separates us from the rest of the labels out here today." - Michael Bentley (VP of Hoopla Worldwide).
