Frankie Muniz, 27, is best known as the child star of hit US sitcom Malcolm In The Middle but he was in Nottingham this week for a gig with his indie band Kingsfoil GROWING up on Malcolm In The Middle meant I got to do some awesome things. I'm extremely fortunate that now I'm in a position to do what I want, and being the drummer of Kingsfoil is what I want to do right now.

I'm just having fun and that's how it was as a kid. I took everything as it came and didn't take it for granted.

I think it was a good experience overall. I'd say it was pretty bad-ass.

I started drumming when I was 12 years old but I've never had lessons. I just kind of taught myself. But now it is what I do, so I take it very seriously. I'm working very hard to keep improving and I'm having a blast.

The band Hanson were a big reason I started playing the drums, because they were my age and it was just so cool that they were touring the world; I just wanted to do that.

And 90s music, even now, is some of my favourite music. I put on the 90s stations when I'm back home. It takes you back to being a kid.

I was in a band prior to Kingsfoil. We shared the same manager. Then my band broke up last year, which was the same time they started auditioning for a drummer.

This is our first international tour. We always hoped to do something like this, but to actually be here doing it is awesome.

I want to be the best drummer I can be. I want to be one of the drummers that other drummers look at and go 'Man, I wish I could do that.' I really learn by just watching people. Some of my favourite drummers are Darren King from Mutemath, because he puts on such a good show when he plays. I also like Luke Holland from The Word Alive & I, who are a metal band. I don't even like metal music but there are some things he does... I really don't understand how people can move that quickly.

What would Malcolm say about me being in a band now? You know there was an episode where I wanted to be in a rock band. I wanted to be a guitar player, and I worked really hard to write a song.

Malcolm was a pretty cool character. He just wanted to fit in and be normal and cool but never was.

He was just an awkward little kid and he had to deal with drama all the time.

As well as drumming and acting I've been a TV producer and a race car driver. I've been fortunate enough to be able to do all those things that I wanted to.

Now I'm trying to figure out what I enjoy doing the most. I think I've done that with Kingsfoil because I love the band. I love music, I love playing live and being on stage and stuff. I feel like it's where I'm supposed to be.

The only that is left on my list of things to do from when I was a kid is accounting. But I do my own accounting and for the band as well, so I've kind of done that one.

I love numbers and I love finances. Other than that the only thing is mail man - and I think I'm still going to do that one.
