NIAGARA FALLS, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 05/23/13 -- The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) today announced the opening of an additional NEXUS lane at the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge, providing more efficient border clearance for low-risk travellers entering Canada. The existing NEXUS lane is open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., seven days a week. The new second lane announced today will be used to process NEXUS members during high-volume periods and used as a regular lane at other times.

This second lane at the Queenston-Lewiston port of entry is the sixth NEXUS lane to officially open as part of a commitment under the Canada-United States Beyond the Border Action Plan (Action Plan). The Action Plan is designed to speed up trade and travel and improve security in North America.

Other Action Plan achievements and improvements related to the NEXUS program to date include:

-- conducting enrolment blitzes to assist with increasing application volumes;-- streamlining the membership renewal process;-- lifting the three-year residency requirement for Canadian and American citizens to apply to NEXUS;-- expanding Trusted Traveller Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) security screening lines in pre-clearance areas to major Canadian airports; and-- expedited clearance through the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Pre-Check lanes at 40 participating airports for domestic travel within the U.S. and select international flights.

Currently, there are over 845,000 NEXUS members who expedite their travel across the Canada-U.S. border at designated land, air and marine locations, up from just over 601,000 in November 2011
