May 16--A weekend of finales plus another epic documentary series from Discovery are headed your way.
And the winner is...
"American Idol" announces its season winner 7-9 p.m. Thursday on Fox, channel 23, cable 5. The competition has come down to Candice Glover and Kree Harrison.
Earlier this year judge Nicki Minaj said it was the season of girl singers and that the guys didn't have a chance. She was right. The finale includes a performance by Carly Rae Jepsen.
The gang from "The Big Bang Theory" are all agog when Leonard is offered an exciting new opportunity overseas.
Sheldon gets jealous, Penny doesn't know what to do, and Raj pushes Lucy too far, too fast in their new relationship on the season finale, airing at 7 p.m. Thursday on CBS, channel 6.
Farewell, Dunder Mifflin
Steve Carell has said he is not coming back for the final episode of "The Office," airing at 8 p.m. Thursday on NBC, channel 2, cable 9. But you never know.
In the 75-minute finale, the documentary has aired some months ago and the employees of Dunder Mifflin, past and present, are gathering for a wedding and a final round of interviews. It will be preceded by a one-hour retrospective of the quirky comedy series at 7 p.m.
Also wrapping up their seasons on Thursday are: "Elementary" with guest star Natalie Dormer as Sherlock's former lover 8-10 p.m. on CBS, channel 6; "Grey's Anatomy" at 8 p.m. with Meredith Grey Shepherd going into labor during the storm; and on "Scandal" at 9:02 p.m., Olivia and her team find themselves in danger -- both shows air on ABC, channel 8.
"Nikita" finishes out its season at 7 p.m. Friday on the CW.
The Sharks circle around two Wharton School business graduates to get a piece of their app, which provides international travelers access to live translators on the season four finale of "Shark Tank." It airs at 8 p.m. Friday on ABC, channel 8.
Also, an 11-year-old from Stamford, Conn., asks the Sharks to invest in his after-school business of selling all-natural dog treats.
The oldest question
On Saturday, "Doctor Who" finishes its season at 7 p.m. on BBC America, cable 176. In "The Name of the Doctor" episode, Clara is called to an impossible conference call -- a call that forewarns her the deadly Whisper Men are closing in on Vastra, Jenny and Strax.
It seems that someone is kidnapping the Doctor's friends, leading him toward a deadly trap into the one place in all of time and space that he should never go -- a place that threatens to unravel his past, present and future.
Bye bye, Stefon et al.
Tulsa's Bill Hader makes his last appearance as a cast member of "Saturday Night Live" at 10:29 p.m. Saturday on NBC, channel 2, cable 9. The eight-season veteran is heading off to the West Coast and more film projects. Ben Affleck will be the host, with musical guest Kanye West.
Sounds of music
The best and the brightest musicians will be honored at the "The 2013 Billboard Music Awards" airing live at 7 p.m. Sunday on ABC, channel 8. On CBS, Tim McGraw and his friends kick off "ACM Presents: Tim McGraw's Superstar Summer Night" at 8 p.m. Sunday on channel 6.
Masterpiece Theater's "Mr. Selfridge" finishes its run at 8 p.m. Sunday on PBS, channel 11, and Fox's "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy" wrap their seasons at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively, on channel 23, cable 5.
Born to be wild
Discovery kicks off its next epic documentary series titled "North America" at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Sundays. It's a seven-part stunning journey across the continent with looks at the wildlife, the people, the land, the extreme weather and how we survive it all. It will air on cable 30.
