WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- (Marketwired) -- 05/01/13 -- pharmaSuisse and education.com/">GlobalHealth Education (GHE) have partnered to provide pharmacists in Switzerland access to the finest quality of disease management course work and training in today's healthcare industry, delivered online through GHE's Learning Management System (LMS).
pharmaSuisse, the Swiss association of pharmacists, supports community pharmacists throughout Switzerland in obtaining the most current information needed to provide patients with the appropriate drug therapy.
"Our association has spent decades building curricula designed to keep pharmacists current on disease management and new treatment protocols," said Dominique Jordan, president and CEO of pharmaSuisse. "The traditional mode of delivering advanced course work was face-to-face training programs across the country. GHE's Learning Management System gives us greater flexibility to provide online learning to more pharmacists, utilizing the curricula we've developed and updated every year," explained Jordan.
First online course launched
In 2011, pharmaSuisse, with its unwavering commitment to quality training, began searching for a digital solution to distribute content through an online platform designed for healthcare professionals. In spring 2012, GlobalHealth Education, headquartered in West Palm Beach, Fla., was selected based on the company's shared vision and unique capabilities.
Following a highly competitive process to win the opportunity with pharmaSuisse, GHE entered into a formal relationship with pharmaSuisse to migrate 13 disease management courses into the GHE LMS. "One of our goals was to use the GHE Learning Management System to facilitate a more dynamic, scalable way to deliver current learning material to pharmacists throughout Switzerland. The simulation, the locker, and the intuitive learning process, along with other features and tools, made the selection of this platform perfect for our organization," said Jordan.
The first course, Hypertension (Cardiovascular diseases I), was written and designed by a team of pharmacy specialists (led by Martine Ruggli and Sara Iten) at pharmaSuisse, and intended for its members. The course work proved applicable for other healthcare professionals worldwide, and was released in March 2013 on the GHE platform.
"Integrating the pharmaSuisse courses into our Learning Management System will help pharmaSuisse reach more pharmacists with advanced training. The system will help to improve the delivery of quality patient care," said Deborah Schwarzberg, founder and CEO of GlobalHealth Education.
A new model for advanced training
Jordan added that the GHE online model represents "an important collaboration" between pharmacists and educators in today's evolving global healthcare environment.
"It is difficult for traditional universities to keep pace with the rapidly changing profession. Academic institutions are not flexible enough to allow rapid reform in pharmacy courses," Jordan said.
Along with international associations like pharmaSuisse, GHE works with colleges and universities, health systems, medical enterprises, and dental companies. GHE is expecting to serve tens of thousands of healthcare professionals worldwide. "Our LMS platform is a game changer in online education because it's capable of customizing the needs of learners and educators on a global scale," said Schwarzberg. "Organizations like pharmaSuisse can work with us and create opportunities to standardize learning for postgraduate training of healthcare professionals, and deliver the training anywhere in the world."
