A group of anti-illegal immigration activists are gathered at
the 57 Freeway overpass on Imperial Highway in Brea to rally for American
workers and against amnesty.
Claremont -based anti-illegal immigration organization We The People
California's Crusader are hosting the rally.
"Our issue is Americans, more than 23 million are under or unemployed and we
think our congress members should be advocating and writing bills to help
Americans, not individuals in our country illegally," said Robin Hvidston,
member of We The People. "So on the day when the pro-amnesty groups are marching
we're here to say we do not support amnesty legislation and we're here to
support American workers. Hire Americans."
Raymond Herrera, founder of We The People, said his group has gathered to stop
an immigration reform bill proposed by a group of 8 Democratic and Republican
Senators that would provide a means for undocumented immigrants to become
citizens.
"We're here to stop the Obama Administration, President Obama and the 'Gang of
8' with proposals of amnesty, which is the same old rhetoric, again," Herrera
said.
His group's message to the federal government is to enforce the 1986 immigration
laws.
"We're standing up for the American people and our message is this, simply
enforce the 1986 immigration laws," he said.
Robert Lauten of Brea, stood with the activists in opposition to amnesty and
open borders.
"I'm against amnesty because once the illegal alien is
granted temporary worker status then they are no longer illegal and are then
eligible for all kinds of social benefits," he said. "That takes away social
benefits from U.S. citizens."
Following the rally, the group will head to Republican Congressman Ed Royce's
Brea office to oppose the pending immigration legislation in the House of
Representatives.
