Officials in Florida said they are nearing a deal with the Miami Dolphins to put up public funds for an upgrade to Sun Life Stadium.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez said Thursday negotiations at Miami-Dade County Hall with Dolphins chief executive officer Mike Dee are progressing positively, but no deal had been reached as of early Friday morning, The Miami Herald reported Friday.

The team is seeking public funds from hotel taxes and other sources to help fund the $390 million stadium upgrade, which the team is hoping to have completed in time for the facility to be considered for the 50th Super Bowl in 2016.

"They have said what they needed and I have said ... what I am willing to give," Gimenez said Thursday during a break from the talks. "We are not far apart."

Dee said discussions would continue Friday.

"We made a lot of progress,'' Dee said.
