CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/30/13 -- Royce Gracie is coming to Calgary! The UFC legend will be coming to YYC SportsCon, Canada's first ever sports convention, being held in August. Gracie was the first-ever champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, which took place 20 years ago when Mixed Martial Arts were first introduced to North America. In fact, he won three of the first four UFC tournaments that were ever held. He is a Hall of Famer and considered one of the greatest fighters in MMA history. He will be one of many current and former athletes that will be at the event, signing autographs and doing photo ops.
Another big name that has been announced is former Toronto Blue Jays All-Star second baseman, Roberto Alomar. He was a part of the Jays teams that won back-to-back World Series titles in the early 1990's, and is the only Blue Jay player inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. Other celebrities that are scheduled to appear include former Baywatch actress, and currently starring on NBC's The Apprentice, Brande Roderick, as well as TSN's Cabral "Cabbie" Richards. More names are to be released in the weeks leading up to the show, including athletes from the NBA, the CFL, the NFL and of course, the NHL.
A trade show will be taking place, with vendors/exhibitors from all aspects of the industry present. There will also be speaking sessions with media personalities and athletes. All of these are a part of the admission ticket. These are very reasonably priced for a first-time event, ranging in price from $20 to $30 for a full three-day pass. The convention will run from August 16th to August 18th at Stampede Park.
Buy your tickets between now and May 8th (roycegracie.eventbrite.com) and you will be entered into a contest to win an exclusive Meet and Greet with Gracie at the show.
Tickets vary in price, depending on if you want to attend one day or the whole weekend.
You can purchase tickets at yycsportscon.eventbrite.com for this event.
