RED BANK, NJ -- (Marketwired) -- 04/24/13 -- Robert J. Tuzzo, CEO and owner of Total Financial Concepts Inc., has been asked to serve on the board of directors of the Jazz Arts Project, a New Jersey-based non-profit organization promoting jazz music and educational programs for the area's youth.
As a long-time supporter of the Jazz Arts Project, musician and financial services expert Tuzzo said his new relationship with the organization as a member of the board will include a strong focus on assisting the group with carrying out its stated mission to "preserve, promote and perpetuate the American musical art form known as jazz."
"My new relationship to Jazz Arts Project will allow me to utilize my experience in the financial services industry to help solidify the financial health of the organization, which will ultimately perpetuate and reignite interest in this wonderful art form," Tuzzo said.
Through its workshops and Jazz Arts Project camps, the group aims to teach youngsters about music and get them interested in jazz in the hope that their appreciation will help to preserve and grow this great American art form and captivate their interest for years to come.
As a lifelong musician and avid supporter of the musical arts in New Jersey, Tuzzo has remained a close friend of the Jazz Arts Project over the years, on and off stage. He most recently had an opportunity to perform at the group's Annual Frank Sinatra Birthday Bash held in December.
Tuzzo's company, Total Financial Concepts, Inc., is an integrated financial services company, offering a range of products for clients, including retirement planning, life insurance and long-range asset management. His experience and expertise in financial services and music will certainly help bolster the sponsorships of the Jazz Arts Project, but he does not intend his new role to be limited to spreadsheets, ledgers and fund raisers. "I hope to bring new and fresh ideas to the organization that will help us continue to nurture young students interested in jazz," Tuzzo said.
Tuzzo began performing professionally at the ripe old age of ten, an early start that would eventually lead the singer and drummer to play in some of the hottest nightclubs in New Jersey. From 1972 through 1985 Bob was a member of the popular trio known as FDR Drive and shared the same bill in variety shows and concerts with legendary bands such as The Platters, Danny and the Juniors, Len Barry, The Earls, The Belmonts, Gary U.S. Bonds, The Dovells and the Shirelles.
Tuzzo left FDR Drive in 1985 to focus on a career in the financial services industry, but music has always remained a large part of his life. "I am very excited to be part of the Jazz Arts Project's board of directors," said Tuzzo. "This is a special organization that has been infinitely instrumental in introducing jazz music to young students. They hold educational workshops and special programs designed especially for young students, many of whom have never seen or held a musical instrument."
