BOISE, ID -- (Marketwired) -- 04/22/13 -- When people get health information they understand, they can make better health decisions. For nearly 40 years Healthwise has written clear and simple health education that empowers people to make better health decisions. This week the Center for Plain Language recognized Healthwise for its commitment to plain language with its fourth straight ClearMark Award. The video, "Diabetes: Stay in Your Target Range," was recognized in the multimedia category.
"This award shows our commitment to staying on the leading edge when it comes to plain language," said Karen Baker, Healthwise Senior Vice President of Consumer Experience. "We want to make a difference in people's lives. To do that, we have to write and design so people can understand how they can take care of themselves. And we've taken this approach a step farther. Videos engage and connect with people personally, and that makes it possible for them to succeed."
One of the biggest challenges -- and an important health factor -- for people with diabetes is staying in their target range for blood sugar. The Healthwise video, "Diabetes: Stay in Your Target Range," helps people understand how testing blood sugar throughout the day will help them stay in their target range and how activities, foods, and medicines raise or lower their blood sugar.
"Diabetes: Stay in Your Target Range" is one of a growing number of videos in the Healthwise® Video Library. Healthwise videos engage viewers through visual storytelling in our award-winning plain language. Each video focuses on key concepts based on where viewers are in their behavior change journey. These videos are used on health plan and hospital websites and by care managers as part of care plan education. Later this month physicians will be able to prescribe Healthwise videos to patients through their electronic medical record.
Healthwise has now been recognized by the Center for Plain Language with awards for the last four years. In 2012 the Healthwise® Learn To Earn course on Coronary Artery Disease won the Category Award for Website, Dynamic Media: Non-Profit. In 2011 the Healthwise® Workbook on Arthritis received an Award of Distinction for Original Document: Non-Profit. And in 2010, the Healthwise® Ix® Conversation on Low Back Pain received the Grand Prize ClearMark Award.
