STRATHAM, NH -- (Marketwired) -- 04/10/13 -- According to Dr. Richard Zeff, a board-certified plastic surgeon in New Hampshire, taking time to select the right plastic surgeon for one's cosmetic procedure plays an important role in achieving optimal results. Dr. Zeff recommends that, whenever possible, the patient should seek the opinion of other healthcare professionals. At the very least, however, he urges patients to ensure that their plastic surgeon is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
During consultation, Dr. Zeff says a plastic surgeon should be open to questions and provide detailed information about the treatment or procedure in which the patient is interested. He notes, "Videos are helpful, and an enthusiastic staff is encouraging, but patients must interact and feel comfortable with the surgeon in whom they are placing substantial trust. There is no substitute for meaningful time with the plastic surgeon."
In reference to how he conducts his consultations at his New Hampshire plastic surgery practice, Dr. Zeff says: "Over the years I have tried to find a format that suits everyone. I like to start by giving a description of the procedure, highlighting what I have learned from other patients over more than twenty five years as a plastic surgeon. After examining the patient, I then answer as many questions as possible. I have found that in this way I can explain both what I feel is important, and what the patient wants to know. This detailed process also gives us both an excellent opportunity to evaluate each other."
The New Hampshire plastic surgeon goes on to say that if patients are not fully confident following their consultation, the best option is to seek additional consultations from other plastic surgeons. This will offer patients the opportunity to learn more and have a better basis for comparison.
Dr. Zeff stresses that patients should take ample time to select the best surgeon for their needs. He says that plastic surgery -- be it a surgical procedure like breast augmentation or a nonsurgical treatment like laser skin resurfacing -- is a major decision that should not be taken lightly. The right plastic surgeon, he adds, is at the core of this decision and is vital to achieving one's overall cosmetic goals.
