ATLANTA, GA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/07/13 -- Though it is not uncommon for more mature patients to seek facial rejuvenation procedures such as Dr. John LeRoy's original line of minimally-invasive Band Aid Plastic Surgery procedures, the Atlanta plastic surgeon has noticed an uptick in the number of middle-aged parents, both male and female, he treats who want to reverse the signs of aging and stress.

Released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons last week, 2012 statistics reveal the fastest growing plastic surgery procedures were not breast augmentation or body contouring procedures as in the past, but facial rejuvenation procedures such as facelift (up 6% since 2011) and blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, (up 4% in the last year).

Traditionally, Dr. LeRoy says parents have pursued cosmetic surgery for the body. Mommy makeover surgery is a fairly common combination of breast and body procedures, such as tummy tuck and breast lift surgery, that some women undergo to reverse the effects of pregnancy and childbirth; however, Dr. LeRoy shares that moms are not the only ones pursuing cosmetic treatment:

"Many dads and other middle-aged men receive BOTOX® injections and eyelid surgery to rejuvenate their eyes and reverse cosmetic concerns such as wrinkles and lax skin of the face and neck."

Dr. LeRoy speculates that the increase in parents' plastic surgery makeovers is attributable to a variety of factors including a less turbulent economic climate as well as the need for patients to stay younger-looking to remain competitive in the job market as other national family, economic, and social factors evolve.

In the end, the Atlanta plastic surgeon reiterates that the most important takeaway for consumers is the range of plastic surgery procedures and cosmetic skin treatments available to meet their individual needs: "Prospective patients, especially busy parents, should be honest with their surgeon about their cosmetic goals to maximize their satisfaction and minimize the downtime they have to spend away from their families."
