MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 03/28/13 -- Today, Le Journal de Montreal is very proud to share the results of the 2013 PMB study, which measured the province-wide readership levels of 115 publications throughout Canada, and of the 2012 NADbank survey, which measured the readership levels of the main daily newspapers in major metropolitan centres. The results of the 2013 PMB study show that Le Journal de Montreal is now read by more than 1 out of 3 people in Quebec, for a total of 2,396,000 readers every week. This is an increase of 384,000 readers (+19% since 2010) and represents unprecedented growth in the history of Le Journal de Montreal.
In Quebec, Le Journal de Montreal attracts 920,000 readers on weekdays, 1,015,000 on Saturdays, and 786,000 on Sundays(1).
The 2012 NADbank survey also supports these outstanding results in Greater Montreal. Le Journal de Montreal now attracts 1,164,300 readers every week, making it THE number 1 daily in Montreal for the 27th year in a row. Le Journal de Montreal is and remains the most widely read newspaper, 7 days a week.
In comparison with previous NADbank results issued in autumn 2012 (2011/12 NADbank), Le Journal de Montreal has recorded an increase of 27,800 readers (+2%). This growth was achieved at the expense of its closest competitor. Indeed, during the same period, La Presse saw its readership drop by 18,600 readers (-2%); as a result, Le Journal de Montreal now has 329,400 more readers than La Presse, a significant 40% lead(2).
In Greater Montreal, Le Journal de Montreal has a grand total of 532,400 readers, which is 94,300 more than La Presse, a 22% lead. Thanks to these results, Le Journal de Montreal is the largest readership daily in Montreal on weekdays.
SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS
Le Journal de Montreal is still the number 1 daily on Saturday with 513,400 readers, which is 24,100 more than La Presse (+5%). The Sunday edition attracts 372,600 readers, an increase of nearly 2,000 readers since the 2011/12 NADbank survey.
Results show that Le Journal de Montreal is of increasing interest to women, attracting 22,400 more female readers as compared with the 2011 NADbank survey results (+4%). During the same period, Le Journal de Montreal also attracted 7,200 more readers (+4%) in the 25-34 age category.
In addition, Le Journal de Montreal saw its popularity soar among CEGEP and university students, attracting 60,600 more readers. Also on the increase is the number of executives and professionals who read Le Journal de Montreal, with 24,900 more readers in this category than last year (+14%). In closing, the number of readers earning over $100,000 a year has also gone up, by 19,200 readers since 2011 (+9%)(3).
