ISELIN, NEW JERSEY -- (Marketwire) -- 03/21/13 -- Ansell, a global leader in protection solutions, announced today the establishment of the H.E.R.O. (Heal, Educate, Reach, Overcome) Nurse Service Award. With the initial launch taking place at this year's 60th Annual Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Congress in San Diego, CA, the award will recognize nurses who have made lasting impressions on their peers, their patients, their profession and their community.

According to the American Association of Colleges of Nurses, registered nurses are 3.1 million strong in America. They are the primary providers of hospital patient care and deliver most of the nation's long-term care; yet much of the great work nurses do is not nationally recognized.

Nurse Service Award is our way to show appreciation for our nation's nurses and acknowledge their tireless contribution as care givers, patient advocates, researchers and teachers," says Anthony Lopez, President & General Manager of Ansell's Medical Solutions GBU. From March 4 to May 26 Americans are invited to nominate their nurse hero online at www.ansellhealthcare.com/facebook. On May 27 voting will begin and will continue until June 30, 2013 .The top 10 nominees with the most votes will receive the H.E.R.O. Nurse Service Award and have their story profiled online. As nurses are deeply committed to education, each winner will also receive a nursing textbook of their choice.
