Oxford Librarian Fired Over 'Harlem Shake' Video

March 20, 2013

Students at Britain's Oxford University are calling for the rehiring of a librarian who was fired after students made a "Harlem Shake" video in a library.

Oxford student paper The Cherwell said librarian Calypso Nash was not involved in the making of the "Harlem Shake" video, a viral dance video trend, but was fired because she was the librarian on duty when the 30 students made the video at St. Hilda's College Library in Oxford, The Guardian reported Wednesday.

The Cherwell said the student body is "calling in the strongest terms for Calypso to be rehired."

The paper said "the Harlem shake did not cause a disturbance" as it "only lasted roughly seven minutes" at about "11:30 p.m. on a Sunday."

The 30 students involved in making the video were fined.
