PETALUMA, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/18/13 -- Cyan today announced the expansion of its Latin American sales presence with the addition of Christian Alvarez as vice president of sales for Latin America. Alvarez will be in charge of Cyan's growing sales efforts in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America, where the company already has a number of active deployments. Alvarez joins Cyan from Avaya where he was managing director for the Americas division.
"Having made substantive headway in Europe and Asia Pacific, we are now turning our attention to the significant growth opportunities we see in Latin America," said Cyan chairman and CEO Mark Floyd. "Christian will be an excellent leader for an already strong field operations team in Latin America and will be instrumental in helping to further expand our customer footprint throughout the region."
According to Alvarez, "The challenges faced by service providers, data center operators, and other large network builders in Latin America are no different than those faced by their peers around the world -- they need to reduce network complexity and simplify service orchestration while more cost effectively scaling their networks. Cyan, with an advanced software-defined network (SDN) platform and range of packet-optical transport platforms, offers these organizations an extremely compelling alternative."
Prior to Avaya, where he was responsible for professional services throughout Latin America and Canada, Alvarez was vice president and chief security officer at eLandia Group, a leading technology integrator. Before that, Alvarez was executive vice president at Connexion Technologies, a builder and operator of fiber access networks. Earlier, Alvarez was president and COO of BroadStar Holdings, a fiber-to-the-home provider offering triple play services in Florida which was acquired by Connexion. Alvarez also held executive positions with Terremark World Wide, a tier one network access point datacenter, as well as Esavio and NetSol.
