CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/14/13 -- The Community Kitchen Program of Calgary is thrilled to announce Feeding the Economic Pipeline - a conversation with Steve Forbes and Jeff Rubin. These featured guests will speak at 7:00 pm at The Jack Singer Concert Hall on May 27th, 2013, in support of the Community Kitchen Program of Calgary, a non-profit organization working cooperatively with corporations, individuals, families and communities to facilitate initiatives that reduce hunger. (www.ckpcalgary.ca).

The Community Kitchen Program of Calgary operates a self-empowering model to address the needs of marginalized Calgarians. Over the years, the organization has evolved to meet the changing needs of the city, in response to the deepening awareness and understanding of the complex issues of poverty and hunger.

The Community Kitchen Program of Calgary programs help adults, children and families to eat healthier, at a lower cost, teaching them how to prepare nutritious meals, budget their finances making their income stretch and most importantly how to keep these healthy habits throughout their lifetime. They are not just giving a "hand-out" but a "hand-up"!

"We want the Community Kitchen Program of Calgary to be a household name in which Calgarians think of when considering who to donate and support in this city. Feeding the Economic Pipeline with Steve Forbes and Jeff Rubin is an opportunity to raise awareness of the services provided by Community Kitchen Program of Calgary to the one in ten Calgarians who are food deficient and to raise sufficient funds to ensure these services are provided on a sustainable basis", stated Marilyn Gunn, CEO & Founder of the Community Kitchen Program of Calgary. She adds that the number of Calgarians living in poverty and hunger is directly related to economic conditions. Job loss, growing unemployment, increased living costs and other factors impact the number of Calgarians needing help. The importance of understanding current and future economic conditions is imperative to preparing for and meeting ongoing needs in the community.

Steve Forbes: Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Forbes Media, is speaking on the global economy and US/ Canada pipeline relations.

Jeff Rubin: acclaimed Canadian Economist and author of current #1 book "The End of Growth" will be speaking about where Canada is headed in the new global economy.
