Canadian Entrepreneur, Toby Davidson, will be appearing on CBC's top-rated show "Dragons' Den," Sunday, March 24 (8:00PM EST), offering her greens for the Dragon's greens. With 25+ years in the food industry, Davidson, President, single handedly launched a truly innovative line of products. Within 5 years, Davidson turned Cookin' Greens into a successful national brand and business.
Davidson travelled into the Den to pitch her farm-to-freezer line of quick-frozen, dark-leafy green vegetables (e.g. kale), asking for $175,000 for 20% of her business. Davidson remembers being in the den for merely 3 minutes before the dragons started to breathe fire, continually asking "where did you get the money to get you this far?" "I'm not young and I have been working since I was thirteen, so I had a chunk of money to put towards it," says Davidson.
No matter the outcome Davidson's view on the product will never change, "we are already a success because of the innovation we have brought to the frozen vegetable category and the quality product we provide to the consumer. The Dragons' Den was a way to gain brand exposure and seek more funds to help move faster and to spread the healthy word."
Although she cannot divulge the outcome of her pitch, she is launching a Dragons' Den inspired recipe campaign using social media to reap the benefits of the "Dragons' Den Effect." Davidson hopes this strategy will get consumers involved with the product and episode.
Commencing the week of March 18th, Cookin' Greens will be launching their unique social campaign, partnering with 5 Canadian food bloggers, Kelly Brisson, The Gouda Life; Michelle Peters-Jones, The Tiffin Box; Bob & Carlene, BS in the Kitchen; Angela, Eat Spin Run Repeat; and Louisa, Living Lou, to bring the campaign to life. Each blogger bravely accepted the challenge of creating one recipe specifically designed to please each one of the dragons, and give them a true taste of Cookin' Greens. Each day leading up to the airing (March 24), Cookin' Greens will release a Dragon's recipe on their Facebook page, culminating with the release of the actual recipe that was presented to the Dragons in the den. Will the bloggers recipes stand up to the Dragons' heat?
