TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 03/12/13 -- Attention: Entertainment Editors
The nominees for the seventh annual Constellation Awards were announced at a press conference held at this weekend's Toronto ComiCon. Presented by the TCON Promotional Society, the Constellation Awards celebrate the actors, producers, and technical teams behind the best science fiction film and television productions of the year, with a focus on Canadian contributions to the genre.
Vancouver-based dramas dominate this year's nominees, as five of six contenders for Best Science Fiction Television Series are shot in that city. Supernatural leads the nominations with seven, including nods for both lead actors, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. Shaw Media production Continuum scored five nominations for its inaugural season, including one for Outstanding Canadian Contribution to Science Fiction. Primeval: New World and Once Upon a Time each have three nominations, while Fringe picked up two nods for its final season.
In the film categories, Vancouver continues its bullish streak, with Joss Whedon's indie thriller The Cabin in the Woods snagging three nominations, including Best Script. But it is Joss Whedon's blockbuster hit movie The Avengers that leads this year's film nominations with four, including acting nods for Mark Ruffalo and Scarlett Johansson.
Other multiple nominees include Looper, Chronicle, Cloud Atlas, The Hunger Games, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Game of Thrones. A complete list of nominees can be found on the Constellation Awards website.
