SEBASTOPOL, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/12/13 -- Maker Faire, the world's premier DIY (Do-It-Yourself) event, will be held at the San Mateo Event Center in San Mateo, CA, on Saturday, May 18 from 10am to 8pm, and Sunday, May 19 from 10am to 6pm.
Following the most successful and largest Faire yet in 2012 with over 110,000 attendees and 900 makers, Maker Faire Bay Area 2013 will continue to shine the spotlight on the relevance of the maker movement and the growing DIY community. Maker Faire will bring makers together with attendees excited about creating, building, playing, and learning to share and show their incredible inventions, hobbies, products, and DIY mentality.
"We love being in the Bay Area. With the inherent entrepreneurial mindset here, it's a magnet for makers and a wonderful audience ready to soak up the creativity that Maker Faire brings," said Sherry Huss, vice president of Maker Media. "We are excited to kick off the Maker Faire season at the San Mateo Event Center and expect another fantastic event."
On February 7, 2013, Maker Faire was honored with the San Mateo Mayor's Award by Mayor David Lim. Mayor Lim recognized the Faire's significant positive impact on the Bay Area community, and beyond, and also shared a personal story about the importance of Maker Faire to his 7-year-old daughter, a regular attendee. Maker Faire also received special acknowledgement from Congresswoman Jackie Speier, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, and both houses of the state legislature.
