DETROIT, Feb. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council (MMSDC) is launching a new annual event series celebrating the five ethnic minority groups represented by its member base.

The series is set to kick-off this Wednesday, February 27, at the Fort Shelby Doubletree Hotel in downtown Detroit in celebration of Black History Month, and will be open to the general public and MMSDC members. Guest speaker Maggie Anderson, author of "Our Black Year," will discuss her family's experience of buying exclusively from black-owned and operated businesses for an entire year.

The event is sponsored by EMC and World Wide Technology, Inc., and is co-presented by the Michigan Black Chamber of Commerce.

The MMSDC's African-American Heritage Day is to be followed by Asian-Pacific (May), Asian-Indian (August), Hispanic (September), and Native American Indian (November) Heritage Day events, with each featuring content geared towards each represented ethnicity.
