* Ericsson will provide Japanese operator KDDI with an IP MultimediaSubsystem (IMS) - the foundation for communication services over LTE
* Ericsson plans to start providing IMS after the second half of 2013

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has signed a contract with Japan's KDDI Corporationforthe development and deployment and of an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), a3GPPstandardized platform that delivers multimedia services. With Ericsson'sIMS,KDDI will realize delivery of the latest telecommunication services for itsover35 million subscribers. The deployment of IMS is scheduled to commenceafter thesecond half of 2013.
Having launched LTE mobile broadband services in September 2012, KDDI nowintroduces IMS in order to take advantage of the latest technologicaldevelopments that Ericsson as the technology leader provides globally. Byconsolidating both wireless and fixed systems, KDDI strengthens theframeworkfor services and will be able to make better use of its resources andoptimizeboth capital and operational expenditure. Ericsson's IMS will also pave thewayfor KDDI to launch additional services such as Rich Communications Suite(RCS),HD voice over LTE (VoLTE) and video calling over LTE - thereby opening upnewrevenue streams.
