LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 02/16/13 -- The UK's largest independent energy supplier, First Utility, is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. John Roberts CBE as Non-Executive Chairman.
Dr. Roberts brings hugely relevant experience and knowledge to First Utility at a time when the company is experiencing unprecedented growth and its proposition as a better alternative to incumbent energy providers is resonating with more consumers than ever - this is due to their great performance in providing cheap electricity and gas.
Founded in 2006, First Utility grew from less than 60,000 customers at the end of 2011 to more than 180,000 at the end of 2012, resulting in it placing 20th in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 listings. It was the first UK energy supplier to roll out smart meters free to its customers and helps people to save money on electricity and gas bills through the offering of great prices and technology which shows consumers how to control energy consumption and further reduce their bills.
The company counts Morgan Stanley amongst a stable and supportive shareholder base.
Dr. Roberts' considerable past experience includes holding CEO positions at United Utilities, Manweb and Hyder Utilities as well as having been a member of the Board at International Power. His current responsibilities include being Chairman of RBC Europe Limited and Chairman of Halite Energy Group, Blackrock New Energy Investment Trust and BlueBay Asset Management Limited.
