PTPA To Host Auditions For Two Productions [Standard - Speaker (PA)]

December 6, 2013

The Pennsylvania Theatre of Performing Arts, Hazleton, will hold auditions for its January musical comedy production and its March drama presentation on Sunday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the rehearsal studio at the J.J. Ferrara Center, West Broad Street.

The January musical comedy is the modern Broadway show "The Drowsy Chaperone." It's the story of a present-day fan obsessed with a 1920s musical. As he listens to the soundtrack in his apartment, the characters come to life.

The drama is the internationally known play "Twelve Angry Men." The show is the story of a jury deciding the fate of a man accused of murdering his father.

The drama turns on the characters as they look into their own hearts to make their life-or-death decision about the accused.

"The Drowsy Chaperone" will be on stage at the Ferrara Center Jan. 10 to 12 and 17 to 19, and "Twelve Angry Men" will be presented March 14 to 16 and 21 to 23.

The cast of "The Drowsy Chaperone" includes the fan who narrates the entire show and the characters from the musical who show up at his apartment.

All roles require singing and some require dance, though there are some non-dancing parts.

Both men and women are needed in all age ranges and there are some parts available for older teens.

Those auditioning should prepare 32 bars of any musical comedy song and bring sheet music for the accompanist. A short dance combination will be taught.

Rehearsals will begin on or about Dec. 14.

Men of all ages are needed for "Twelve Angry Men." Those auditioning should prepare a two-minute monologue from any dramatic play. Rehearsals will begin the week of Feb. 3.

Actors should enter through the Mine Street door of the Ferrara Center and go downstairs to the rehearsal studio. More information about the auditions and outlines of the characters for both shows are available at the theater's website, www.ptpashows .org.

PTPA is currently presenting its holiday musical "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" on stage at the Ferrara Center this weekend and next.
