The mobile app is free and works with Apple iPhones and Android devices. Its upgrades include new maps of reported crime, ways to submit crime tips to police and ways to file police reports on problems from identity theft to hit and run.

The new app integrates online crime reports, where users can report car burglaries and other crimes.
If users have a tip for police about a suspect or vehicle in a crime, there is a separate place in the new app to submit those, too. The user can then follow up with police about it through the app, and police can follow up with the user for more information.
The crime tip feature is not intended to replace 911, which is for emergencies, police said.
